👋 Meet John B. Bailey

Founder, Lakes Region Analytics | NicheMarket Services
Data Translator | Small-Business Ally | Recovering Innkeeper

John’s journey into data began in the mid-1980s, wrangling operational chaos at legacy hotels like the old Ritz in Boston—where spreadsheets were plentiful, systems were clunky, and clean data was a luxury. That early exposure to hospitality analytics planted the seed for a lifelong fascination with making messy information useful.

Fast forward to 1997: John bought an inn in southern Vermont and found himself not just fluffing pillows, but learning HTML to build the inn’s website. With two hours of training and a stubborn streak, he dove headfirst into web design, digital marketing, and the fine art of figuring things out on the fly. That DIY spirit stuck. Over the years, he became the go-to guy for small businesses who needed someone who could speak both “geek” and “human.” From SEO and email campaigns to network troubleshooting and CMS platforms, John built a reputation for practical solutions and collaborative problem-solving.

His data analysis journey deepened at Prentiss Smith & Co., a boutique ESG brokerage, where he refined environmental datasets, automated reporting workflows, and helped the research team track sustainability metrics with precision. That led to a role at Nasdaq as an ESG Data Analyst and Subject Matter Expert, where he wrangled millions of records, built dashboards in Power BI and Excel, and led projects aligned with SASB, TCFD, and the UN SDGs—turning ESG reporting into something even non-analysts could understand and act on.

Today, John brings that same roll-up-your-sleeves energy to Lakes Region Analytics. He’s fluent in ETL (that’s Extract, Transform, Load—aka the process of turning messy business data into clean, actionable insights), but he’s even more fluent in plain English. Whether it’s optimizing a menu, forecasting inventory, or decoding customer behavior, John’s approach is collaborative, practical, and refreshingly jargon-free.

He’s not here to impress you with acronyms. He’s here to help you make smarter decisions with the data you already have—and maybe even enjoy the process.
